The Quest
The Quest for self-fulfillment of mind, body and soul!
A few weeks ago, one of my best friends and co-creator of Stories in Black, Ladu Pearson, asked me to create a section of the website that is dedicated to feeding the mind, body and soul of its viewers. I have to admit I was apprehensive about it. Writing wasn’t the issue, the subject was the issue. If I have to be honest, I haven’t been the best caretaker of my own mind, body, and soul so I was afraid that whatever I produced in this section would not be authentic. During this pandemic, I have been either stuck longing for the past or focused on the other side of it, ignoring the present and slowly deteriorating on all fronts in each category. As a by product of this amazing opportunity to be included in such a positive movement, I can authentically tell you that I set my intentions on discovering what it means to feed your mind, body and soul. The key is intentionality. Simply put, you have to actively seek it out.
Everyone born has a purpose no matter how short or long their journey in this life entails. Each person is divinely created and just their being is enough. But, how you choose to live that life is a gift that should serve you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. A “quest”, according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, is an act of seeking. Therefore, the quest for self-fulfillment is intentional, healthy, positive growth. It is fluid and changes throughout your life’s journey, experiences, and relationships. It is what leads you to your goals. The quest is not embedded in the past or daydreams about the future. It is what you do to get through each day to grow and learn in the present that will propel you to those future goals. It is action. It is willful. It is fulfilling. It is divinely personal. It makes you happy. It makes you grow. Imagine the energy that would go into this type of self-care and discovering each aspect of your life.
“It’s not about if you can do it well, it’s about the process of just doing it.”
There are a host of ways, activities, and practices that can and will lead you on the quest for self-fulfillment. Praying, meditating, journaling, doing yoga, swimming, hiking, jogging, walking, cycling, exercising, dancing, cooking, gardening, shopping, traveling, writing, reading, caring for pets, feeding the hungry, singing, listening to music, collecting music, creating music, playing an instrument, martial arts, playing sports, teaching, learning, talking, taking pictures, drawing, painting, volunteering, blogging, gaming, decorating, etc. No doubt, this will be different for each person. Many people, defeatedly, stop doing things that they like or even love to do because they think or have been told that they aren’t good at it. Be courageous enough to do it anyway! It’s not about if you can do it well, it’s about the process of just doing it. This is what you enjoy and feeds your self-fulfillment. The purpose of each segment featured here in The Quest is to take a look at individuals that actively engage in what feeds their inner peace. The goal is to provide you with inspiration to discover your own quest. If you’re lucky enough, you will hit the trifecta of something that takes you to that place of self-fulfillment for your mind, body and soul!
